Please note that this garden is undergoing a massive renovation.
The Patriot Garden was themed as such in order to bring support and awareness to our military/veterans and first responders. These men and women have contributed to the safety and welfare of our nation and communities. Due to the stressors and traumatic events they face on a daily basis, this garden is aimed at providing them aid. This aid will be done through the creation of a therapeutic garden area where they can decompress and relieve anxiety. Decompression can be aided by gardening on site, enjoying the peacefulness of the area by walking through or hanging out in the roofed pavilion, and remembering their friends lost in the line of duty at the memorial. This garden is important to us as it helps show that we understand the difficulties they face and we appreciate their work.
There are four main parts that comprise of the garden; walkway, roofed pavilion, memorial, and the education corner. The shape of the walkway is both aesthetically pleasing and tries to give different viewpoints with plants and designs you may not see from other angles. A screening hedge made of multiple species of plants is growing in order to provide a relaxed enclosed environment separating this garden from the building and parking lots.
The roofed pavilion will be sided with trellis so that climbing plants help blend it in to the garden. This area will also have art posted on the inside that was created from our community. Benches and a custom-made table with inlayed military and first responder memorabilia will also be included. This will be a fantastic place to read, relax, or have meetings. Adjacent to the pavilion will be a information board that will provide resources for PTSD, TBI, suicide awareness, a military/veteran/first responder of the month with their photo and biography, local support/social groups and information on the garden will be displayed.
The memorial will be somewhere between 4-5ft tall made of granite. It will have partially laser etched inscriptions and a brass inlay that will have the names of local fallen military and first responders due to line of duty events. There are also handmade red poppies that will surround the memorial to symbolize the blood from those who fight for our country (foreign and domestic) which was originated from the poem "In Flanders Fields" by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae.
The educational corner is a multipurpose area that will have a star shaped above ground planter box and 4 other small above ground planter boxes, and ADA accessible tables and seating. This area will be used for outdoor education programs that teach topics like planting, transplanting, and crafting for both children and adults. Local schools could benefit from this area for fun and educational field trips. Various educational pamphlets for topics like fire safety, conservation, pollinator bugs will be accessible.
We are still looking for more donors/sponsors.
